At DNA 11 we love having the opportunity to let our clients personalize the color of their DNA portraits…  No two DNA portraits are identical after all!

With the Fingerprint Portraits and  Kiss Portraits you can choose custom colors online, but with the DNA Portraits, our in-house designers work directly with our clients to create custom colors, based on swatches or Pantone colors they provide us.

The photos below are just two of the customized portraits that the team has created.

This was a totally custom job we did for our friend. A very special one-of-a-kind job from the early days of DNA 11. It took over 4 months to complete and he was involved at every stage of the design process.

This custom color combination started with inspiration from one of our standard colors. It was customized with the help of the DNA 11 designers.

Do you have a custom color combination in mind for a DNA portrait?

No two people share the same fingerprint. Identical twins do not even have the same fingerprints, even though they share the same genetic DNA.

Fingerprints begin developing when ridges are formed on the outermost layer of skin, on your fingertips. The ridges form a pattern that is your unique fingerprint.

These ridges are developed during weeks 20 to 24 of gestation and will not changes as a person ages. Your fingerprint will change in size but the patterns the ridges that are formed will remain the same from infancy to adulthood.

fingerprint-categories

The unique identifiers come from the varying number, and spacing of the ridges, even though everyone can be classified into three categories or patterns.

  • The Loop –   (65% of all people)
  • The Whorl – (30% of all people)
  • The Arch -   (   5% of all people)

Wondering what category or pattern you fit into?

When DNA 11 was looking to create a business card we knew it has to be personalized and very custom.  After all, we create the world’s most personalized art. So we turned to Moo.  A very cool company that lets you make personalized business cards using a bunch of images that you can pull from your Flickr account or just about anywhere. What makes these cards different is that every card can have a unique image on the back of  it. So awesome! – and worth every penny. The quality is best I’ve seen- colors so pure you would swear they are using an offset printer to make these.  If you’re a designer, an artist, or a photographer these are the cards for you.

I have to say that Moo is a wonderful company. I love their website, their passion, their packaging and the customer service is top notch. Everything we strive to be too.

It’s that time of year again – time to go out and find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Whether it’s a Valentine’s gift for him or for her; this year is the year to move past the classic chocolate, candles, and flowers by finding something you know they’ll remember for years to come.

Lately the biggest craze has been finding your loved one that perfect personalized gift and for years this meant a key chain with a name engraved or the ever popular “World’s Best Boyfriend” mug. Well, lately the bar has been raised and now you can name a star after your loved one  or even purchase them an acre of land on the Moon with the Lunar Registry.

Although both are really cool concepts – do you think that we’ll be packing up and moving to the Moon to make use of that acre any time soon? That I’ll leave to you… But while you think about it… why not find the ideal Valentine’s Day gift personalized for him or for her with a piece of personalized DNA Art from DNA 11.

The DNA Mini Portrait is a great gift for the man looking for the latest in decor as it brings together art, technology, and pop culture at an affordable price. Measuring just 8”x10” the DNA Mini Portrait is perfect for the office or on a bedside table.
KISS Portrait
And for the perfect gift for her this Valentine’s give her more than just a kiss… immortalize it with the KISS Portrait, from DNA 11. Add your lips and her lips on the same canvas and choose from lots of color combinations and sizes. DNA 11 has partnered with M·A·C Cosmetics and a portion of the sale of every KISS Portrait will go towards the M·A·C AIDS Fund.

So now you’re probably asking yourself how you surprise someone with a portrait like this, and on top of that, how do you get someone’s DNA or lip print without them knowing? Not to worry, that’s been thought of too and it couldn’t be easier. No, you won’t have to sneak into their bathroom and take a piece of hair from her brush or secretly find a way of getting the lip print.

All you have to do is order the gift kit; complete with a DNA gift card, instructions, collection kit and everything else they need to get started on the piece you selected. It even comes in a nice metal box so they have something to open on Valentine’s. If you really aren’t sure what they want you can order gift certificates too. It will be sent over to you for wrapping or sent right to your loved one by mail, or even by email, with a message from you.

So this Valentine’s Day forget the bubble bath and the roses. Find your loved ones a truly personalized, one a kind gift and buy some DNA Art from DNA 11. There is still plenty of time to order and have your perfect gift ready before Valentine’s Day.

From the press release:

The 13 Summer House will take place in the Pines section of Fire Island, which has a long tradition of attracting New York’s elite, especially its influential gay population. The festivities will kick off with a complete renovation of the house, led by The 13 Team. “We look forward to the challenge of taking a classic beach bungalow and redesigning it into a complete luxury lifestyle experience that incorporates each of our design partners’ unique styles, whether its funky, chic, rustic, elegant, traditional or even eco-friendly,” said Mark Addison, Director, Experience Design of EVENTSTYLE.”

DNA 11 made a portrait of Sandra Bernhard’s lips (remember?- she was on the Rosanne Barr show) and it will be auctioned off for charity.

All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Ali Forney Center for homeless Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) youth.

DNA 11 is commited to giving back to worthwhile not for profit organizations and charities through our “giving back” program.

We think the 13 House looks very stylish many thanks for including DNA 11 in this project.

Have you seen seen the viral WII Video on Youtube that’s been viewed nearly 4 Million times? It’s called “Why Every Guy Should Buy their Girlfriend WII fit”. Personally I think it’s a WII commercial cleverly disguised as a viral video but either way it was surprised to see one of our portraits in it.

DNA 11 and Spade Magazine Pre-show team chillout session

We just wrapped up the Montreal Design Show (SIDIM) last week. It was one of the best shows we’ve done all year. We met some great people including fellow designers, architects, interior designers and clients. As a VIP guest of the event SIDIM even put me up in the new OPUS Hotel. If you are ever in Montreal I encourage you to check out this very luxurious, unique and modern boutique hotel.

This year we decided to get creative and design a booth that was built from recycled materials and could also be 100% recycled. Mission accomplished. Nothing in our booth was wasted this year. The booth was made 20% from cardboard and 80% from wood. All the wood was donated to a local farmer and the cardboard was tossed into a recycling bin at the end of the show. Even the metal hardware was recycled. The Booth space was worth nearly $10,000 but the booth only cost us around $300 to make and we recieved a lot of looks and great feedback from the attendees.

Mnay thanks to our design intern Anthony Chimbuya for all his hard work and dedication and to our friends at Spade Magazine for making the event possible.
