Right now, some of the most amazing innovators and thinkers are gathered in San Diego for a medical conference like no other. TEDMED brings together an extraordinary and diverse group of leaders in one place where theoretical ideas are thrown it into the reality of tomorrow’s technologies. This year it’s being held at the Hotel Del Coronado, on Coronado Island from October 25th – 28th.

It was a natural fit for DNA 11 to be there, especially with their speaker line up boasting huge names like Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple) and Lance Armstrong. Then, leaders in the genetic sciences field such as Ashley Dombkowski (Chief Business Officer, 23andme) and Eric Schadt (Director, Institute of Genomics, Mount Sinai Medical School).

DNA 11 is so thrilled to be doing an 18′ x 24′ DNA portrait for every speaker. Also, a $100 DNA 11 gift card will be given to each of the 1000 conference attendees.

Follow along with conference updates on twitter @tedmed or hash tag #tedmed. We will be!

Our business wouldn’t exist without biotechnology, and the ambitious idea to sequence the human genome back in 1990, with the creation of the Human Genome Project, further helped to popularize DNA in society .

Now, thanks to biotechnology, not only do we get great, original artwork on our walls but we get lots of other cools things like cures to major diseases, improved crops and better plot lines for TV crime dramas.

Canada’s bio-economy is worth over $84 billion, or more than 6.5 per cent of its GDP, and supports more than 1 million jobs.

BIOTECanada, the national non-profit association dedicated to building the bio-based economy in Canada, has a great website up for National Biotechnology Week at: www.imagenenation.ca.

And of course there is no better way to celebrate National Biotechnology Week than to capture your own DNA on canvas with one of our original DNA Portraits.

The holiday’s are fast approaching and your shopping days are diminishing.

Are you in search of that special gift for the Geek on your list?

We have highlighted our Top Holiday Gadgets from this year’s WIRED Holiday Store 2009!

1) Dyson: Air Multiplier Fan- This is not your conventional fan.
It has no blades humming so it creates a smooth stream of air.

2) Gizmine Middle Colors Humidifier - This is not your typical
humidifier. The sleek design and range of color options is what
sets this apart. This is perfect for the designer savvy urban dweller.

3) The Conran Shop: ICE INVADERS – Get rid of those boring old
ice-cube trays. Check out the Ice Invaders! They are made out of
pure silicone, making them oven and dishwasher safe.

4) Buckyballs: by Zoomdoggle - What exactly are Buckyballs? I
asked myself the same thing. They are actually a set of 216 rare earth
magnets. I love the saying “trying to find something more useful is
useless!” I’m sure this would provide hours of entertainment without
even knowing it.

5) CanvasPop: Your Photo on Canvas - Are you looking for
creative ways to print family photos? Start with any image, at any

6) Owle: Bubo – For that iPhone photo enthusiast, here is the ultimate

It’s that time of year again – time to go out and find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Whether it’s a Valentine’s gift for him or for her; this year is the year to move past the classic chocolate, candles, and flowers by finding something you know they’ll remember for years to come.

Lately the biggest craze has been finding your loved one that perfect personalized gift and for years this meant a key chain with a name engraved or the ever popular “World’s Best Boyfriend” mug. Well, lately the bar has been raised and now you can name a star after your loved one or even purchase them an acre of land on the Moon with the Lunar Registry.

Although both are really cool concepts – do you think that we’ll be packing up and moving to the Moon to make use of that acre any time soon? That I’ll leave to you… But while you think about it… why not find the ideal Valentine’s Day gift personalized for him or for her with a piece of personalized DNA Art from DNA 11.

The DNA Mini Portrait is a great gift for the man looking for the latest in decor as it brings together art, technology, and pop culture at an affordable price. Measuring just 8”x10” the DNA Mini Portrait is perfect for the office or on a bedside table.

And for the perfect gift for her this Valentine’s give her more than just a kiss… immortalize it with the KISS Portrait, from DNA 11. Add your lips and her lips on the same canvas and choose from lots of color combinations and sizes. DNA 11 has partnered with M·A·C Cosmetics and a portion of the sale of every KISS Portrait will go towards the M·A·C AIDS Fund.

So now you’re probably asking yourself how you surprise someone with a portrait like this, and on top of that, how do you get someone’s DNA or lip print without them knowing? Not to worry, that’s been thought of too and it couldn’t be easier. No, you won’t have to sneak into their bathroom and take a piece of hair from her brush or secretly find a way of getting the lip print.

All you have to do is order the gift kit; complete with a DNA gift card, instructions, collection kit and everything else they need to get started on the piece you selected. It even comes in a nice metal box so they have something to open on Valentine’s. If you really aren’t sure what they want you can order gift certificates too. It will be sent over to you for wrapping or sent right to your loved one by mail, or even by email, with a message from you.

So this Valentine’s Day forget the bubble bath and the roses. Find your loved ones a truly personalized, one a kind gift and buy some DNA Art from DNA 11. There is still plenty of time to order and have your perfect gift ready before Valentine’s Day.
